Under 16s v Cheltenham Town - HOME - Won 3 - 1

Atfer a long Christmas break, extended by cancellations due to the bad weather, City struggled to find their timing and a very scrappy first half ensued. Exeter again conceded from a set piece with a free header 6 yards out from a Cheltenham corner putting City behind. Jordan Edgecombe had the Grecians level before half time as he latched onto a through ball down the left, cut inside and finished well. The second half saw the Grecians improve and dominate the game despite never finding top gear. Although he was only on the pitch for 10 minutes before an injury Sean Holden had a big impact in the centre of midfield and put Exeter on the front foot. It was Edgecombe again, with an overhead kick, that gave City the lead but the best goal was saved for last with Josh Searle bursting into the box with a great first touch and rifling the ball into the bottom corner.

In their first game for over a month City never really got going and were second best in most areas. Matt Grimes and Luke Roper worked hard in the middle of midfield until both had to leave the game with injuries. Jacob Cane's work rate, attitude and all action performance showed the way to the rest of his team.

In the first period City threatened to find their rhythm with glimpses of good passing football that created chances, most notably with George Bennett turning in the box and having a goal bound effort blocked. However, a penalty left Exeter 1 - 0 down at the break and a trend within this age group continued as heads dropped and City allowed Cheltenham to dominate most of the remainder of this match. Sam Brown and Tom Pancherz linked well down the right hand side and Christy Pym was solid in the City goal.
