U9s - U16s vs Bournemouth
Under 9s v Bournemouth - AWAY - Lost 3 - 1
Exeter started the stronger of the two sides in the first period with Audie Campbell, George Rae and Thomas O'Shea working extremely hard in the midfield. Cameron Hargreaves was looking lively up front and was taken down inside the penalty area and duly dispatched the kick himself for the opening goal of the game. After that Bournemouth's passing improved and the Cherries put a lot of pressure on Rowan Symonds in the Exeter goal. Rowan made many fine saves and Exeter seemed to be holding on well until a Bournemouth equaliser at the end of the second period. Two late goals gave the home team a victory but deprived City of a result they had worked hard for.
Man of the Match - Rowan Symonds
Under 10s v Bournemouth - AWAY - Won 8 - 4
Exeter were totally in charge throughout this game with Matt Scott winning every tackle and Nick Grimes positional play from the back allowing him to support the numerous City attacks brilliantly. Goal scorers were Tom Scadding (3), Mika Morgan (2), Teague Lobb (2) and Will Richards.
Man of the Match - Matt Scott
Under 11s v Bournemouth - HOME - Lost 1 - 0
From the start the game was closely fought, with Bournemouth prominent in mid-field. City gradually settled and an even contest ensued with both teams passing and retaining possession well. In the final period both teams tired, the competitiveness waned and the quality of play dropped. Unfortunately, one lapse of concentration was enough to enable Bournemouth to score and win an excellent match.
Under 12s v Bournemouth - HOME - Won 3 - 0
Exeter proved far too strong for Bournemouth and should have scored more goals in a dominant display. Goals came from Louis Cane, Sean Goss and Jacob Harris capped a fantastic passing display from the young Grecians.
Man of the Match - Sean Goss
Under 13s v Bournemouth - HOME - Lost 4 - 0
City started slowly, showed very little effort or willingness to pass the ball and were lucky to escape the first period goalless having struggled to get out of their own half. In the following three periods Exeter's performance was better, work rate improved and there were sporadic spells of some good passing play. In general the Cherries were the better side with too many City players watching the game pass them by rather than actually playing in it.
Man of the Match - Andrew Parker
Under 14s v Bournemouth - AWAY - Won 4 - 2
Exeter got off to a great start and within a minute Jake Allen got onto a through ball and smashed home a 20 yard volley. Exeter continued to dominate in the first period and Sam Dicken's cross come shot managed to find the net. Two pieces of sloppy marking in an otherwise good defensive display let Bournemouth back into the game but Jake Allen lifted Exeter back to life with his work ethic and he again found the net from 20 yards after cutting inside and finding the top corner. Jamie Micklewright then finished off the scoring after rounding the keeper and was unlucky not to score again with a strike that crashed off the crossbar.
Man of the Match - Jake Allen
Under 15s v Bournemouth - AWAY - Drew 1 - 1
A determined City side came away with a creditable draw and made sure there was no repeat of the 4 - 1 defeat suffered in late January. City took a deserved lead through the hard working Tom Nichols and were denied a second when a slick move was finished by the lively Jacob Cane only to be ruled out for offside. Bournemouth increased the pressure and equalised after they were given too much space by the City defence. City then looked shaky for a while but regrouped and the back three of Josh Concanen, Phil Veal, Dan Cooke and goalkeeper Paul Gibbins were outstanding. The benchmark on workrate and commitment was set by this performance so more of the same please.
Under 16s v Bournemouth - HOME - Won 4 - 2
A very young Grecians side, including five Under 15's and one Under 14's player, put in a strong performance against a lively Bournemouth team. City were on the front foot, were quicker to loose balls, broke up play well and won the physical battle. A wonder strike from Josh Searle opened the scoring, after an Exeter corner was headed clear Searle struck it first time from all of 40 yards and the ball arrowed into the bottom corner. Roger Ingham created City's second goal from right back, Ingham broke a tackle and then drove into the box where his cross was handled and Jordan Edgecombe dispatched the penalty. Having conceded a soft goal from a corner five minutes before half time Exeter immediately restored their two goal advantage after Josh Searle played a sublime through ball for Jordan Edgecombe to lob the advancing keeper. Shortly after half time a head injury to Will Radford in the City goal saw Edgecombe turn his hand from goal scoring to goal keeping. Another Josh Searle through ball put Callum Somers in to make it 4 - 1 before a consolation Bournemouth goal with the last kick of the game spoiled Edgecombe's clean sheet.
Man of the Match - Josh Searle
