One of the all time stalwarts in the Exeter City side of the late 1950s and 60s, Keith Harvey amassed 517 appearances for the Grecians, scoring 28 goals. He was at St James' park for seventeen seasons, which would be unheard of in today's football., His appearance record is only second to that of Arnold Mitchell's.

Born at Crediton on 25th December 1934, he signed professional for the City in August 1952 and made his League debut early that season as a right-half. However, it was as a centre-half that he gave such sterling service, being safe in the air and a firm tackler, never one to hold back.

Harvey would have gained the club's appearance record, but for a number of injuries. He broke his right leg in October 1958, his right ankle in a pre-season practice match in August 1962 and his collarbone on three other occasions.

Harvey reached his peak as City's most improved player around 1961-62 and two seasons later he was an ever present in the Grecian's first promotion winning team, building a half-back line partnership with Mitchell and a young Des Anderson. The trio were pretty well first choice for the whole season, such was the consistency of the players.

Keith was City's trainer in 1966, but when he continued playing he gave up his position at the end of one season. He was, however, trainer for two subsequent spells before leaving the club in December 1972. Harvey moved to the south coast where he became a postman.
