MATCH REPORT
In a typical opening day contest the Grecians gained a valuable point at Kitkat Crescent in an entertaining goalless draw which on another day may have been all three points but many positives could be taken from this game in particular from the performances of Danny Woodwards and Adam Stansfield.
In the first half chances were few and far between for both sides but York came close to breaking the deadlock when McGurk headed against the post and the Grecians forcing the York keeper into two point blank saves from Stansfield and Mackie.
In the second half the game really kicked in gear with most notably the main talking point being the York keeper escaping a red card for handling outside his area with derision from both sets of fans ringing in his ears this acted as a spur to the Grecians as they pressed and pressed for the all elusive opening goal with the best chance of the game falling to Adam Stansfield who raced clear of a sleeping York defence but slightly overran the ball when clear on goal.
More chances were created by the Grecians and only last ditch tackles saved the York rearguard particularly when Danny Woodards was pushed up to a more advanced role and dangerous crosses were provided for messrs Stansfield and Mackie who was later replaced by a probing Bertie Cozic and Jon Challinor was replaced by Dean Moxey who got booked for his endeavours.
