In extremely windy conditions, both teams tried desperately to play football, but it inevitably resulted in game of two halves, with Newport having the wind behind for the first 45 minutes and the Grecians in the second.

Newport were fortunate to open the scoring in the 19th minute after a mix up in the City defence but they were restricted to that single advantage after an excellent Grecian rear guard performance.

Disappointingly, Newport added to that tally a minute into the restart, but City then took control of the game and deservedly pulled one back on 72 minutes through a long range effort from Dan Green. City then bombarded the Newport goal and after excellent work from Stan Paxton, Kyle Bassett came once again off the bench to score the equaliser in the 80th minute.

As hard as they tried the home side were unable to get the winner, but another cracking game played in very difficult conditions.
