Match Preview - York City (A) - Blue Square Premier - 10/3/08
Having earned a point from a tricky match at Crawley on Tuesday night, Paul Tisdale takes his City side up North on Monday night to take on York in an encounter to be screened live by Setanta. Adam Stansfield has recovered quicker than expected from the injury sustained against Northwich, but won't be in a position to play on Monday, so either Lee Elam or Steve Basham will expect to start alongside Richard Logan. There had been talk of a loan signing, but with Stansfield likely to return sooner than first thought this may have negated the need to bring someone in.
It has been a strange season for York. Having missed out in the Playoffs to eventual winners Morecambe last season, York were expected to challenge at the top again this time around, despite the loss of star striker Clayton Donaldson to Hibs. However, a disastrous start to the campaign saw Billy McEwen lose his job to be replaced by Colin Walker. Walker steadied the ship with a decent run, including a victory over runaway leaders Aldershot, but a couple of defeats in recent weeks put paid to any lingering hopes of a late run to the Playoffs. York still have hopes of silverware in the FA Trophy, although these hopes may have been extinguished on Friday night with a 2-0 defeat in the Semi-Final 1st Leg at Torquay. One player hoping to take his place in the Minstermen's line-up is Craig Farrell, who had a short spell at City where he displayed obvious talent without ever managing to make a big breakthrough. And in Emmanuel Panther York have one of the most talented midfielders in the division.
The Setanta cameras were also on hand to witness a 1-1 draw between the sides back in August. Richard Logan converted from the spot after Adam Stansfield was fouled, before York got a deserved late equaliser through Onome Sodje. The correspdonding fixture last season represented Paul Tisdale's first match in charge at City and ended 0-0.
